She is coming to Manhattan Beach!

We are looking forward to hosting the Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award-winning Egan, whose new novel Manhattan Beach, is set in the Brooklyn shipyards in the 1930s and 1940s. This novel is among the most highly anticipated titles of the fall. And with rave reviews from Kirkus ("apparently there's nothing Egan can't do") and Publishers Weekly ("The book's emotional power once again demonstrates Egan's extraordinary gifts"), this is one lunch you won't want to miss. I hope you will join me in welcoming Jennifer to our own Manhattan Beach!

About Ladies, Lunch, and Literacy

Ladies, Lunch, and Literacy was founded in 2008 with the goal of encouraging readers to interact with selected authors in a personalized setting, meet other readers and build a community of fellow book lovers. Mysterious Galaxy is proud to introduce talented debut authors of literary fiction, and support some special organizations doing important work in our community in the process. We pride ourselves on identifying the authors and novel whose work you will want to be reading and whose careers you will be reading about!

Since the program’s start, Ladies, Lunch and Literacy has hosted lunches for an impressive slate of authors, including Emma Donoghue (Room), Katherine Stockett (The Help), Lauren Groff (Monsters of Templeton, Fates and Furies), Jojo Moyes (Me Before You), Sue Grafton (U is for Undertow) and many more.

All attendees receive a signed first edition from a promising new writer, helping to create buzz and book group interest in the process. Lunches are held at independently-owned local venues, and proceeds from the event go to support a literacy-related non-profit doing important work in our communities.
