This book was a culmination of things that make my heart happy. It’s got a romance between two characters that can’t help but feel a pull to one another (even if they only have one day to enjoy it), a beautiful message about finding yourself in this chaotic world where a million different voices are telling you what to be, and K-Pop! These characters get lost in the lies they feed one another about who they are but one truth they can’t ignore is how they begin to care for one another and how their chance encounter could be the very thing that helps them find themselves when they are feeling their most lost. From the beautiful and lively streets of Hong Kong to the blended cultures of the characters, the world Goo has created is amazing to see in the genre. This book is a feel-good read filled with heartfelt moments that kept me turning the pages. The characters feel real in their struggles, blushing embarrassments, and genuine smiles. I highly encourage you pick this one up and jump into their story.

A Cosmopolitan Best Young Adult Book of 2019

Sparks fly between a K pop starlet and a tabloid reporter in this heartwarming rom-com from Maurene Goo.

10:00 p.m.: Lucky is the biggest K-pop star on the scene, and she’s just performed her hit song “Heartbeat” in Hong Kong to thousands of adoring fans. She’s about to debut on The Tonight Show in America, hopefully a breakout performance for her career. But right now? She’s in her fancy hotel, trying to fall asleep but dying for a hamburger.
11:00 p.m.: Jack is sneaking into a fancy hotel, on assignment for his tabloid job that he keeps secret from his parents. On his way out of the hotel, he runs into a girl wearing slippers, a girl who is single-mindedly determined to find a hamburger. She looks kind of familiar. She’s very cute. He’s maybe curious.
12:00 a.m.: Nothing will ever be the same.

With her trademark humor and voice, Maurene Goo delivers a sparkling story of taking a chance on love—and finding yourself along the way.
