On Saturday, July 28, join the Mysterious Galaxy staff and a panel of Romance Writers in celebrating the latest genre section in the Galaxy; AKA adding "matchmaking" to our books of Martians, murder, magic, and mayhem. Why Romance? Beyond the fact that it's a genre several of the staff are passionate about, the central mission of Mysterious Galaxy and our goal of sharing the magic of books, to quote the Romance Writers of America, "Romance fiction is smart, fresh and diverse. Whether you enjoy contemporary dialogue, historical settings, mystery, thrillers, the paranormal, or any number of other themes, there's a romance novel waiting for you!"
We're kicking off our curated and expanded section with a panel of Romance authors, including HelenKay Dimon, whose current series are The Games People Play and the Jameson Heirs. HelenKay, the president-elect of Romance Writers of America, who will be contributing quarterly Staff Picks to our section.
Participating authors include New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Jill Shalvis, who writes warm, funny, sexy contemporary romances and women’s fiction; her latest is Rainy Day Friends. Linda O. Johnston's web intro states, "Mystery, paranormal romance, romantic suspense and more… I’ve a lot of interests, and the diversity spills over into my writing. So does my obsession with dogs!" Linda's latest books are Second Chance Soldier and Pick and Chews. The Black Wolf is the latest solo novel from local author and teacher Linda Thomas-Sundstrom; Linda is also a contributor to the Fae Worlds anthology with Marie Andreas, Lisa Kessler, and C.C. Dowling.
Two basic elements comprise every romance novel: a central love story and an emotionally satisfying and optimistic ending. Romance novels may have any tone or style, be set in any place or time, and have varying levels of sensuality — ranging from sweet to extremely hot. These settings and distinctions of plot create specific subgenres within romance fiction. At Mysterious Galaxy, we're all about sharing the magic of genre fiction!
This event is free and seating is first come, first serve. To get a book signed during one of our events, a copy of the event book must be purchased through Mysterious Galaxy. Event purchases through Mysterious Galaxy not only keeps our bookstore doors open, but also makes author signings possible.
