Like Buffy Anne Summers, author Kiersten White is a force to be reckoned with. Kiersten is the best-selling author of The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein, the And I Darken trilogy, and many more novels, as well as consistently hilarious social media posts. Kiersten has been Chosen to relaunch the Slayerverse tie-in novels, beginning with the quasi-eponymous Slayer. (See Maryelizabeth’s review below)

It kinda slays me to do the math and realize that it’s been more than 20 years since “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” aired on television. There was a time – while working on the two non-fiction companion volumes for “Buffy” and “Angel” – that I was at least as invested in the lives of the characters and the events in their universe as I was in the lives of some of my real life friends. I was incredibly enthusiastic when Kiersten announced that the licensors had rebooted the tie-in novels line, with her as the author. Slayer does a fabulous job of being true to the sensibility and girl power of the show, novels, and comics, while also being accessible to readers who may be new to Slayers, Watchers, Hellmouths, and more. I read it like a nice life update from a friend I hadn’t heard from in a while, and am excited for more. -- Maryelizabeth
"The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein is a powerful read that is a brutal yet elegantly crafted retelling of Frankenstein. It is so much more than just a retelling though. It is a conversation of how we mold ourselves into meticulously imagined portraits of what we should be for someone else. How pleasing another can become an all-consuming darkness that becomes our way of survival. This book pushes you into the darker parts of your mind. It makes you think about how we will turn into something we’d rather not face in the mirror so that someone else will validate us and give meaning to an existence that gives a false promise of fulfillment. Go down the dark roads of this story and let your immaculate white clothing become bloodied and dirt-splattered with the uglier side of humanity. The monsters created by man are by far the most horrifying and greatest to fear. Their sweet smiles keep you from ever seeing their true nature." -- Constance
